A truck is traveling along a straight road at constant velocity. A person illegally standing on the back of the truck throws a ball vertically up.
If air resistance is neglected, where will the ball land?

A. In front of the truck
B. Behind the truck.
C. On the truck.
D. To the side of the truck.

Answer: C

This is similar to Galileo dropping objects from the crows nest of ships.
When thrown, the ball has a forward velocity equal to that of the truck. Consequently it will continue to move forward at the same velocity (Newton's first law).
When it comes down the truck will be underneath it so the ball will land on the truck.
